James Popin

As a child in Utah, James was curious about buildings and places. He chose psychology and anthropology for undergraduate study, but the early draw of architecture carried him back to school. Architecture combines his interest in understanding human behavior, caring for the natural environment, and designing inspiring, useful spaces.

I’ve been playing the piano since I was seven years old. It’s an important form of expression. Sometimes my playing is spontaneous, free. At other times, practicing scales and arpeggios for example, playing is a task, requiring discipline in pursuit of measured improvement. Music and architecture share the rigorous demands of rhythm, meter, and structure. And they both afford the opportunity to create and inspire.
