We design equitable communities, authentic buildings, resilient landscapes, places that comfort and inspire.

From our beginnings as a design firm more than 30 years ago, we have earned a well-rounded reputation as community architects. Listening, collaboration and a seasoned architectural design process lay the groundwork for successful projects. Our work all grows out of a simple conviction – we make places where people live, learn, work, and play, sometimes individually, and sometimes with others. In other words, we make places of intentional community.

Student Internships

Over three decades, we have helped students explore architecture through personalized and interactive internships in our studio. The time focuses on learning design fundamentals – drawing, modeling, form, space and light – with a goal of deepening curiosity in architecture, taking steps towards a design career, and having fun.

We believe it is important to build a more equitable architecture profession. We partner with Student U Durham, Diversify Architecture, ACE Mentor Program, NC State School of Architecture, and students outside of these programs for internships. Most internships occur during school breaks. Contact us if interested!

Studio History

Our studio focused on thoughtful residential projects when we began in 1993 as Dixon Weinstein Architects. Over the years we expanded to commercial projects and built strong relationships with builders, contractors and regulatory bodies in the North Carolina Triangle region. In 2008 we became Weinstein Friedlein Architects and continued making award-winning residential and commercial projects, including work for the Girl Scouts of NC, Durham Central Park Co-housing Community, Orange County Animal Services and Pullen Memorial Baptist Church to name a few. We took our current name, withArchitecture in 2023 to continue the work of Weinstein Friedlein Architects and to put our core values in our name. We look forward to making architecture with you.

We are a certified Historically Underutilized Business (HUB) with the State of North Carolina and a Small Local Business Enterprise (SLBE) with the City of Durham.
